He was born in Ankara in 1955 and graduated from the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Graphic Arts in 1976.
From 1976 to 2005 he had participated in domestic and international exhibitions and received many awards. He was among jury members in many national competitions and worked as the member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Graphic Designers and ARD. Since 1978, he has been the art director of the
Rekmay Ltd. which is co-founded by him.
He was among the founders of the Graphic Arts Department of the Fine Arts Faculty of the University of Başkent, and has been lecturing and delivering speeches in the Hacettepe, Bilkent and Anadolu Universities.
Also providing consultancy service on strategic communication for a number of companies, Murat Dorkip has focused his studies on Perception and Brand Management and Identity as well as Typography. He has designed brands and logotypes for many companies and products.
Being a winner of many contests for advertisement campaigns in Turkey, in 2011, Dorkip was also responsible for managing the visual communications of the centennial events of the Turkish Air Force, including the development of a centennial logotype.
Furthermore, in that same year, in the ‘F-16 SOLOTÜRK Project’ of the Turkish Air Force, he was the graphic designer of the F-16 fighter jets and was responsible for managing the corporate identity of the whole project. (Solotürk Project became the winner project in 2011 in the GMK, Outdoor design branch. Again in July 2011, in ‘Air Tattoo’, one of the biggest air shows of the world, Solotürk Project won the biggest and most prestigious award with its design and its corporate communication strategy.)
Dorkip also developed the new design of the Turkish Stars, the national airshow team of Turkey.
The 2016 design for the national ”Hürkuş” (Freebird) aircraft project for the Turkish Air Forces and TAI, belongs to him as well.
Dorkip has received the “Kırmızı/Red Press Advertising Honor Award” in 2016.
He is also one of the board members of the Turkish Graphic Designers Association.
In 2016, he has designed the new social identity cards for the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Since 2010, Murat Dorkip is a member of the Turkish Design Advisory Council as the representative of the Graphic Designers.
He also participated in many EU projects as the “Graphic and Communication Designer”.
Two solo exhibitions have been organized, presenting his graphic works.
He is married and fathers a girl.
